Portsoy Salmon Bothy If you can drag yourself away from the 'main attraction' of the magnificent scenery you'll find visitor attractions all along the coast telling the story of the arts and culture of Banffshire.
Duff House in Banff is home to an outpost of the National Galleries for Scotland and houses works of art by Gainsborough, Chippendale, El Greco and Sir Henry Raeburn as well as regular visiting exhibitions. The art is hung throughout this magnificently restored William Adam Georgian country house which gives a glimpse of Banff's noble past.
The crystal clear light and panoramic seascapes have long attracted artists to the coast here, and you'll find many small galleries where local artists create and sell their works.
The community run Banff Museum gives a far longer view of the area’s past, reaching as far back as a 2000 year old Celtic war trumpet. It's one of Scotland's oldest museums.
It's not just sea shanties which are associated with coastal music and The Salmon Bothy in Portsoy hosts regular folk music sessions in an authentically restored shore-side venue. The community run Banff Castle also host regular events including a cinema club where visitors can have a temporary membership.
