Glenglassaugh Distillery, Sandend
Glenglassaugh Distillery, which had lain silent for 22 years, was officially re-opened on 24th November 2008 following a recent change of ownership and subsequent major refurbishment. Glenglassaugh is now back in production, once again producing a renowned spirit. It is possible to purchase any of our products directly from us at the distillery, including our Highland Single Malt Scotch Whiskies, New Spirit Drinks and 50 litre 'Octave' casks.
Glenglassaugh is one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, founded in 1875 by local entrepreneur James Moir.He ran the distillery with his two nephews until 1892, when Glenglassaugh was purchased by Highland Distillers. After being completely re-built in 1960, the distillery continued to produce whisky until 1986 when it was mothballed. The distillery sat silent for over 20 years until it was purchased by new owners in 2008. Following careful refurbishment it started production again in December of that year - the Glenglassaugh spirit once again flows from the stills . . .
Glenglassaugh is produced using the highest quality of Scottish barley and traditional distilling methods, our key focus is on quality. While many distilleries have become highly automated, here at Glenglassaugh we still do the work by hand. Our spirit is handcrafted by a small team, dedicated to creating the highest quality product, which will slowly mature and develop in our coastal warehouses until it is ready to be savoured. Casks of the highest quality are selected to mature our precious spirit, we also bottle a small amount straight from the still with nothing added but the same water used to make it, to create our Spirit drink.
All our tours at Glenglassaugh are conducted by actual distillery staff with a vast knowledge of the whisky industry. Tours are only by appointment, so please help us by booking in advance.
