The Banffshire Coast is attracting growing numbers of artists and photographers in search of inspiration. Internationally renowned artists such as John Lowrie Morrison (Jalomo) have discovered the unique qualities of the area and the word is spreading.
It is the perfect area for a creative break and visitors and artists alike will find inspiration at every turn.

What makes our coast so special for artists?
Blessed by the unique Banffshire littoral light, the area is a delight for anyone with an interest in art or photography. The sublime quality of the light is attributable to a combination of the coastal geography, geology and micro-climate, all of which contribute to produce some amazing natural effects. You will be spoilt for choice of subject matter, which can change in appearance in the blink of an eye depending on what season and what time of day it is viewed. From the tumultuous orange waves created by the Deveron waters in spate crashing into the sea at Macduff, or the diffuse pink glow washing over a tranquil Sandend at dawn, to the blackness of the North Sea reflecting the colour of approaching storm clouds – the inspiration is without bounds.
